Mercer Island Residence

Site: A level plateau at the foot of a steep slope critical water area on Mercer Island with views of Mt. Rainier.
Program: A 5,500 s.f. new residence for a family of two adults and four young children. The scope of work includes a five-bedroom home with a formal music room and dining room, great room/kitchen, master suite, children’s recreation room, and a two-car garage.
Solution: To fit the program on the site, the hillside was excavated and supported by a concrete retaining wall, piles, and lag wall construction that forms the north wall of the house.
The entire south facing elevation is composed of multiple glass doors that open up onto a stone terrace. Rockery has been added in preparation for gardens leading down to the water.
