Treasure Island Residence
Port Madison, Bainbridge Island, Washington
Site: Located on a small island in Port Madison Bay, this site is accessible only by pedestrian bridge or boat. The island is an environmentally critical area due to wetlands caused by tide action. The building area was extremely limited as a result.
Program: Build a vacation home large enough for two families and small enough to fit on the restricted building footprint.
Solution: The home was divided into a series of pavilions. A main day pavilion, dining area pavilion and cooking pavilion connect to a bunkhouse by a glassed-in walkway. The main day area has an outdoor eating and cooking porch adjacent to the living room that features sliding glass wall panels that open up at the southeast corner of the house onto the wrap around deck.
