Yonder
Bainbridge Island, Washington

Site: A heavily wooded, gently sloping high bank waterfront lot facing Puget Sound with views of Mt. Baker and Seattle.

Program: A 5,500 s.f. residence, guesthouse, art gallery and a media/film viewing theater.

Solution: The home is approached from a courtyard where gardens and patios create light-filled exterior rooms. The main entrance hall is the central circulation spine of the building and separates the private guest suite to the west, the art gallery to the east and the theater below. The great room features a sliding glass wall with views toward the Sound, heavy timber trusses, a stone fireplace and a book collector's display room which doubles as a stage for music and lectures. The lower level houses the media and film theater, complete with seating from an old Seattle opera house and a popcorn and refreshment area.

Experience: A project of Kriegh Architects
