Eagle Harbor House
Bainbridge Island, Washington
Site: Located near the head of Eagle Harbor, this site is on a sloping hillside across the street from the bay and next door to a wetlands. The building site was extremely limited as a result.
Program: Recycle a 19 year old waterfront home by transporting it from its waterfront location on Puget Sound to a water accessible upper bay site on Bainbridge by barge.
Solution: The new site required significant excavation to
avoid exceeding equipment limitations for transporting the large home up the
slope from the water. This created an opportunity for a 1400 sq.ft. daylight
basement/office to be built under the existing home, increasing the total
home size to almost 4800 sq.ft. More
